Each morning on the Jamrock Reggae Cruise, Nyabinghi drummers set up above the mainstage deck area to deliver a captivating Nyabinghi Sunrise Drumming Session.
The morning sunrise sessions are both grounding and magical. The sun rises, the drums are pounding to a healing rhythm as they honor a new day. While the cruise is known for major performances and vibrant nightlife, these drumming sessions offer something more grounded and communal. Instead of a traditional stage dynamic, Nyabinghi circles invite participation, where cruisers join together in a shared space.
Nyabinghi drummers are central to the spiritual and cultural foundation of Rastafari, using rhythm as a form of meditation, resistance, and connection. Originating in Jamaica in the early 20th century, Nyabinghi drumming became a way for communities to gather, chant, and reaffirm identity, deeply influencing the sound and spirit of roots reggae that would later spread worldwide.
In our cruise environment, the drummers don’t just honor tradition, they keep it alive.
